IE TV hosts 2009 Independence Day Fireworks

Monday 3rd August, 2009

CL Communications' cable television subsidiary - IE TV Channel 1 - will host the 2009 Independence Day fireworks celebrations in collaboration with Firepower Fireworks on Monday 31st August 2009.

There will be two venues for the celebrations - Queens Park Savannah in Port of Spain and the San Fernando Hill.

"On Trinidad & Tobago's 47th anniversary of Independence, the opportunity to sponsor this event could not be missed! As a media group which has always prided ourselves on being for the people and with the people, I felt it would be depriving many families of something they have traditionally looked forward to on the holiday,if we did not do this. In San Fernando hundreds of cars line the San Fernando Hill, Golconda, Pleasantville and surrounding areas to see the fireworks display, likewise in Port of Spain. 'Celebrating Our Heritage' is IE TV's position, and that's exactly what we're going to do on Independence with the fireworks display & celebration!" said CL Communications Chairman Mr. Anthony Maharaj.  Mr. Maharaj added that the Trinidad & Tobago Police Service will be out and about on the evening of the display, so families can rest assured that they will be in safe hands and can relax and enjoy the fireworks.

Firepower Fireworks' Director, Mr. Khalid Ghany, has been the display operator for the pyrotechnics for this event in the past, and has worked closely with the CL Communications Network on the Plymouth Jazz Festival in Tobago. Mr. Ghany was adamant in continuing the event this year and sought the cooperation of CL Communications in an effort to do so. Firepower will also be executing the fireworks display for the Independence Day celebrations in Tobago.

Trinidad & Tobago's Newsday is a co-sponsor of the Independence Day fireworks.
